Complementary Skills are a key component of the training programme and, although there is no rigid definition of them, they tend to be associated with two areas:
development of a broader perspective on aspects of science or society;
development of social-emotional and behavioural skills, such as time management, assertiveness, initiative, teamwork, planning and stress management.
Within a given study cycle, Complementary Skills correspond to Curricular Units in any scientific field, with the exception of the main fields covered by the relevant study programme and the area of so-called soft skills.
The aim of equipping students with skills in areas other than their core academic discipline(s) and, at the same time, facilitating mobility between the schools of the University of Lisbon, brings clear benefits to the students.
The Regulations on Complementary Skills Curricular Units of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon apply to students of CIÊNCIAS enrolled on any programme of study leading to a bachelor’s degree.
