1st Cycle course (Bachelor and Integrated Master Degree)

Applications are open continuously from 20th March to 20th October 2017, existing three phases of appreciation:

First period
For applications received until 14th April
Affixation of selection results – 1st to 5th May  
Deposit payment in the amount of € 500.00 must be made until 5 working days after publication of the results

Second period
For applications received between 15th April and 30th June
Affixation of selection results – 10th to 14th July
Deposit payment in the amount of € 500.00 must be made until 2 working days after publication of the results

Third period
If after all deadlines there are still courses that do not meet the number of places offered, an additional application period will be open until 20th October 2017. The applications are considered by order of entry. All the selection, registration and enrollment processes must be finished until 31st October 2017. 

Those that may apply for enrolment and registration onto 1st Cycle Studies (Bachelor Degrees and Integrated Master Degrees) at Faculdade de Ciências must be:

  • Non-Portuguese Students and non-nationals of a European Union country Students, and applicants that are not legally residents in Portugal for more than two years;
  • Holders of a certificate that confirms their right to apply and be admitted into higher education in the country in which it was obtained; or
  • Holders of a Portuguese secondary education diploma or the legal equivalent; and
  • Students that are currently enrolled or have been enrolled and registered in an international institution of higher education, in a course defined as higher by legislation of the country in question, but who have not yet obtained a certificate of higher education.

Applicants must have academic qualification in the areas of knowledge/expertise required by the cycle of studies and course for which they are applying for and have the prerequisites referred to in the general conditions of access and admission.

2nd Cycle course

1st period of applications: 6th June - 14th July 2017
2nd period of applications: 18th August – 31st August 2017

In order to apply for a Master Degree, the international student must have:

  • 1st Cycle Degree concluded, or legal equivalence;
  • Holder of a foreign academic Degree conferred after concluding a 1st Cycle Degree of studies, organized according to the Bologna Process, by a Member State adhering to this process;
  • Holder of a foreign academic Degree that is recognized by the Scientific Board of the higher education institution for which they are applying for (this recognition must meet the purposes of a 1st Cycle Degree);
  • Holder of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies by the Scientific Board of the higher education institution for which they are applying for.

Consider as legal equivalence to the degree of “Licenciatura (1st Cycle)” and Master (“Mestrado”), the equivalence and recognition of qualifications provided for in Decreto-Lei nº 283/83, 21 de junho and Decreto-Lei nº 341/2007, de 12 de outubro.

The validity of the referred degrees must be confirmed by the competent authority of the state from which the documents are originated. The Final Certificates/Diplomas must be certified by the Portuguese consular services or be presented with the Apostille (Hague Convention) by the competent authority of the state from which the documents are originated, and whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, they must be translated into one of these languages.

In order to apply for a 2nd Cycle course, international students must demonstrate the knowledge and expertise required by the course for which they are applying for.

3rd Cycle/PhD course

1st period of applications: 3rd July - 14th August 2017
2nd period of applications: 1st December 2017 - 16th January 2018

In order to apply for a 3rd Cycle course/PhD “Doutoramentos” Degree, the international student must have:

  • Master “Mestrado” degree concluded or the legal equivalence or
  • “Licenciatura” degree or legal equivalence, holder of a relevant scholar or scientific curriculum vitae, that provides the competences required to be enrolled in the specialization area of the PhD programme.

Consider as legal equivalence to the degree of “Licenciatura” and “Mestrado” (Master), the equivalence and recognition of qualifications provided for in Decreto-Lei nº 283/83, 21 de junho and Decreto-Lei nº 341/2007, de 12 de outubro.

The validity of the referred degrees must be confirmed by the competent authority of the state from which the documents are originated.
