The Workers’ Representatives for Health and Safety at Work (RT-SST) of CIÊNCIAS were elected on 1 October 2015 and assumed their duties following the publication of the election results in the Labour and Employment Bulletin of 29 December 2015.
They are based throughout CIÊNCIAS and are available to listen to and assist colleagues whenever necessary, either in person or by email (rt-sst@ciencias.ulisboa.pt).
There are ten RT-SST members, comprising five permanent members and five substitutes.
The RT-SSTs are a management control body that represents workers before their employer.
The RT-SSTs aim to:
Take part in the process of implementing health and safety at work services at CIÊNCIAS, particularly with regard to the nature of these services, with the aim of ensuring that they are of exemplary quality, in line with the standards required of an institution of excellence such as CIÊNCIAS;
Cooperate with other management bodies of the Faculty and University, including occupational health and safety officers, in the assessment and control of risk factors, to ensure the more effective implementation of prevention and protection measures;
Collaborate in the establishment of an Occupational Health Unit at CIÊNCIAS and monitor its performance, adhering to standards of excellence and respecting the principle of ‘adapting work to the individual and the individual to work’;
Ensure that current legislation is strictly complied with;
Inform all staff of their rights regarding occupational health and safety, as well as their obligations in relation to safety;
Provide up-to-date information on labour legislation, safety standards and regulations, in order to ensure that duties are carried out competently and professionally;
Disseminate relevant information to all those working in CIÊNCIAS regarding best practices for risk prevention in the workplace;
Establish an efficient modus operandi that promotes and facilitates the participation of each and every individual in OSH matteRS, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the work carried out by the elected Workers’ Representatives.
