Call for Expressions of Interest for Visiting Assistant and Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Mathematical Sciences (DCM) of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon (Ciências ULisboa) announces that applications are now open for a pool of candidates interested in teaching positions, with a view to appointing Visiting Lecturers (Visiting Assistants and Visiting Lecturers) for DCM courses in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Interested candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree, completed by 1 September, in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Operational Research or related fields.

Candidates must send the following documentation to the address below by 7 June 2026:

  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae;

  • A letter of motivation;

  • Copies of documents proving qualifications;

  • Any other documents they consider relevant to the assessment of their merit.

Candidates must state whether they are available to teach full-time, during the day and/or in the evenings, and in which subject areas they would like to teach.

In accordance with Article 10 of the General Regulations on the Recruitment of Specially Appointed Teaching Staff at the University of Lisbon, the candidate to be appointed will be selected by a selection panel comprising tenured academic staff from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. In accordance with that same article, the selection panel may decide that none of the candidates has a CV suitable for the duties to be performed.

Expression of Interest - Full Professor Position in Probability and Statistics

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon invites expressions of interest for a future position of Full Professor in the disciplinary area of Probability and Statistics.

 

Interested candidates are requested to submit, by June 30, a single PDF file containing the following documents:

  • Motivation letter (maximum 1 page), clearly identifying the applicant’s scientific area of interest;

  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages), including links to publication profiles (such as MathSciNet, Google Scholar, Scopus, etc.), a brief description of current professional commitments, and availability to assume a new position;

  • Achievements and publications statement (maximum 1 page), describing up to three main achievements and publications, together with an explanation of the applicant’s individual contributions;

  • Research and teaching statement (maximum 1 page), outlining current and future interests.

Call for Expressions of Interest for Assistant Professor Positions

The Department of Mathematical Sciences (DCM) develops teaching, research, and innovation activities that integrate theory and practice, with a strong focus on the rigorous solution of real-world problems. The disciplinary areas and specific research domains can be consulted here.

The DCM is undergoing a period of renewal and seeks highly qualified and motivated academics and researchers who are enthusiastic about teaching and eager to contribute to the mission of the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa.

We offer excellent working conditions, including:

  • An individual or shared office (two faculty members per office);
